Herman Frijda: onderwijspionier en grondlegger van de sociale economie in de zesde faculteit van de UvA

Herman Frijda was de eerste hoogleraar sociale economie van de nieuwe economische faculteit van de UvA die in 1922 van start ging. In 1914 promoveerde hij te Leiden op een monetair proefschrift. Zijn grote verdienste is dat hij voor de nieuwe faculteit een degelijk curriculum wist op te zetten met goed onderwijs. Daarnaast kwamen onder zijn leiding een aantal belangrijke proefschriften tot stand. Naast monetaire onderwerpen toonde hij in zijn publicaties een bijzondere belangstelling voor conjunctuurvraagstukken. Wegens zijn Joodse achtergrond werd hij in 1940 door de bezetter uit zijn ambt gezet. In 1944 werd hij gearresteerd en kwam om in het vernietigingskamp Auschwitz. Frijda was een pionier voor het academisch onderwijs in de economie.
